Change of Seasons – How’s that working for you?

Wendy Love Clark, September 23, 2024September 23, 2024

The change of seasons can be hard on many of us. Even if you are right now transitioning to your favourite season like I am – fall! I just find the air crisper, the sky bluer and the lack of hot temperatures and pesty bugs gives me energy and desire to do stuff I haven’t done all summer.

How about you? And how about this season?

If you are a homeowner, there is some special work that comes with each season. Fall means putting summer things away, cleaning up the leaves, and for some getting the kids ready for school. Extra work can mean extra stress. Plus daylight savings will put our clocks back an hour and it will be dark by 5 or so. This amount of darkness is hard on most of us but especially hard on people who have depression.

And what about winter? Well, where I live in Canada, winter means getting your boots and heavy coat out and your snow tires on. It means spending a lot more time indoors. It means looking out your window to well, sometimes, a magical snowfall, but other times a paralyzing snow storm.

And then spring, a breath of fresh air. Saying goodbye to the snow, but saying hello to rain and mud. Saying goodbye to the indoor life but saying hello to getting your outdoors ready for the next season. But with spring there is something wonderful that no other season brings – hope! The hope of better weather for several weeks, even months.

And then there is summer. Well there is some work involved, getting summer stuff ready to use, whether that is just the kids outdoor toys, or a pool or cottage or rv. Adding outdoor work to your indoor work. And planning trips and socializing more than any other season. I am exhausted just thinking about it!

Each season is unique:

fall for beauty,

winter for rest,

spring for hope,

summer for fun.

What is your favourite season? Why is that? Mine is fall because of the weather. But it is also a dreaded season for me because occasionally I slip into depression in the fall. But just knowing that makes it possible to prepare for it and accept it and manage it while still being able to enjoy my favourite season.

God shows himself as an artist most in the fall.

‘When I am weak then I am strong’ popped into my head during my morning devotions and I looked it up. It is found in 2 Corinthians 12:9-11. Well it actually says “When I am weak, He is strong”, My Bible Tells Me So. The idea here is that we…

I’ll never forget one time when my husband and I were walking through a campground holding hands. We walked by another couple setting up their stuff and the husband said, “If my wife sees you she’ll say to me, ‘See, lots of other husbands are willing to hold their wife’s…

‘Baby Boomer’ was a favourite movie for me. It’s old, but so am I. I can identify with the main character in so many ways. One way is that she is a ‘bottom-line’ kind of gal. She wants her information, short and to the point. In the story, a fancy,…
