God in the Details: Even in the Heat

Wendy Love Clark, July 14, 2025July 14, 2025

A Hot Day and a Busy Start

It was a really hot day. We had several things to do and a lot of driving. Before we began our day, I finished walking Casey in my walking shoes (slip on Skechers, so wonderful) and hopped in the car. I thought I had put in everything I wanted for my busy day but I forgot my sandles. And did I say it was a really hot day, and humid too?

I prefer to walk in my skechers, not my sandles, but for just getting in and out of the car and doing errands, my sandles would have been preferable.

An Unexpected Problem

After a long day, my husband had to drop me off somewhere in downtown Peterborough but there was no where to park so he said he would just drive around until I called him. Which he did. And I did.

But…when I called him he laughed nervously and said “I’ve got a bit of a problem. A cop stopped me because I forgot to renew my driver’s license and now won’t let me drive until I do, so you are going to have to meet me here.”

“Okay, where are you?” I replied deciding there was no reason to get made at him (yet) for being so forgetful. When he told me where he was I started to get mad. Why was he so far away?

The Long Walk

But I am a walker, I love walking and so I decided, ‘how hard could it be?’ and headed out. Well, it was easily six or more blocks and two big hills and no shade and 39 degrees celcius.

But guess what? I sure had the right shoes on!

Honest Emotions

Yes, I confess, I was mad at my husband. And the longer I walked, the hotter I got and the madder I got. I’m only human after all.

God in the Small Things

But I was so glad I had those shoes on. And I believe God had arranged it all along. It is these small things where I choose to see God’s hand. And I see his hand most days, in the small things.

Yes when really difficult things happen to me or someone I love, when there are wars and homelessness, and cancer and dementia, yes I get discouraged, even wonder why God let’s it happen.

But on this particular day, I had the right shoes for the job and I choose to believe God had a hand in that.

Look Closely, He’s Always There

Keep your eyes and ears open, he may be closer than you think.

Would You Like God to Talk to You?

December 17, 2024July 11, 2025

I talk to God a lot! I often wake up talking to him, I go to sleep talking to him, and most mornings spend a little while reading my bible and my devotionals and writing in my prayer journal. That is not to say that I am this big time…

DEVOTIONAL BOOKS – ARE FOUR TOO MANY?

October 29, 2024June 25, 2025

Devotional books have influenced my Chrisitian walk as much if not more than any sermon. From the moment I started my first devotional book I was sold. Unlike my bible, which I often had a hard time understanding, it was written in language I could understand and even told me…
