I talk to God a lot! I often wake up talking to him, I go to sleep talking to him, and most mornings spend a little while reading my bible and my devotionals and writing in my prayer journal. That is not to say that I am this big time spiritual person. Not at all. I am struggling like everyone else. But in my struggle I look to God, over and over and over.
And yet, today when I read Isaiah 50:4 “He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.” I thought and I said to my God “when do I listen to you? I spend more time talking to you.” I felt guilty for not listening and inadequate in my quest to know God better.
But God answered “Wendy, you listen to me all the time. You listen when you read your little devotional books every morning, you listen when you read your bible, you listen to me when you enjoy beautiful music, you listen when you enjoy your morning walk and look up at the sky.”
And so once again God meets me where I am.
So, are you listening to God? I think you are! Even if, like me, you don’t always know it.
Some people would say that the Christmas season is so packed full of other stuff that there is no room for God. Some would say that the noise and commercialism of Christmas have taken over and no one thinks about Jesus. But wait!
It only takes a moment, no matter where you are or what you are doing, to see God, hear him, and receive his love. He is all around us, even in the commotion. Look and listen….
Look for the Christ in Christmas, he is still there.
Merry Christmas!
