Yep, that’s me, holding my precious, still new, devotional book. I have sold around 70 now and it is encouraging. But this is only the beginning. According to the experts, readers like to know what it is like to be an author. So I’ll give you a little peak.
I often wake up writing. I am always writing, well in my mind anyways. I leave scratch notes everywhere. It doesn’t keep me awake but it is there, like my little dog, as soon as I awake. If I ever actually wrote all that I thought of, it would contain volumes!
Most days begin like this, author or not. Bath, devotions, exercises, walk dog, text kids, breakfast, make bed and then I get to do my other stuff, usually writing, often quilting and sometimes painting.
All the ‘how to launch your new book’ articles I read tell me to get on social media and so, since I have been on Facebook for a long time, that is where I start many days. This is a stretch for me as I am an introvert and not a social media fan, but, to promote the book, I try.
I am trying to do Instagram as well, but finding it much harder to adapt. Maybe in time, I will figure it out. But I don’t like Instagram. However, I found an article about ‘how to do social media for people who don’t like social media’ and that was helpful.
I have not stretched my little old lady self beyond those two social media platforms. It is overwhelming.
What else might I do as an author? Well, I am reading one devotion out of my book every day, just like many of you are. That is an interesting experience. Sometimes I think ‘did I write that?’ Other times I think ‘will anybody understand that?’ Just because I wrote it and published it and that looks like a pretty big deal, doesn’t mean I have confidence that it is all good. And yet, occasionally I like what I read and I hope the readers do too.
I sometimes study the websites of other authors to see some examples of how I might better present myself. There are a lot of ways to research how
to promote your book and I dig in as much as I can.
Right now I am working on some stories for ‘Guideposts’ magazine. I have wanted to do this for a while and now that I have a book to promote it seems like a good time.
And so, I guess I am saying that just because the book is written and out there, I am still working on it. It is still a precious creation to me. The baby is born but it needs nurturing. It is my new baby and I am like a new mother so we are figuring it out as we go along.
This week I am going to appeal to my readers and see if any might be willing to write a review (a good review of course!).
And so there you have it, if you’re even interested. This is what many of my days look like.
What about you? You are special, you are unique. God made you to be like no one else. What is a day in the life of ____________________ look like? I would love to hear about that.
God loves you, he created you, his love is unfailing, his power unmatched. Trust him, love him, use him.
Hi Wendy . I love my new devotional, My Bible Tells Me So . It is the one I read before going to bed at night . It sits on my bed side table .
Thanks for writing this new book . It always gives me something to think about .
Hi Pat, thanks for sharing those kind words. Glad it leaves you with something to think about.
Wendy, did you or Cliff shoot the lovely pic of the chickadee in the May blossoms, or someone else? I copied that pic but before I use it, I’d prefer to know its source so I can give credit where credit is due. Thank you kindly and all the best to you and Cliff, and Annie, and all the family.
Not sure where the pic came from, sorry about that.
It a quick easy way to add a piece of Jesus to your morning or evening when its been busy. The devotions make you reflect and hear Jesus speak to you. Thanks for sharing Wendy.
Hi Hettie, thanks for those words.
Thanks Hettie for that comment! Glad you are getting something out of my little devotional.
Loved hearing what your days are like!
Spoken like a true sister!
